I have listened to the whole series, well, the series so far, and have enjoyed every moment. What a refreshing change he is to so many of the other fictional police officers.
I enjoyed his dry wit, I sympathise with his dislike of buzz words and I love that he possesses an almost hidden musical talent, the genre of which suits him so well.
The slow revelation of DC's intriguing past left me wanting to know more, however, patience is rewarded as his back story is cleverly woven in to the plots of each book.
This Police Procedural has been a real pleasure to read/listen to and I just hope there is more to come, the only drawback? It left me in a real reading slump of not being able to find another series to enjoy as much

Narrated by Gildart Jackson who is a perfect fit for the job, he makes a brilliant DC, one nitpick point is I couldn't understand why he would use the American pronunciation of "booey" rather than the English "bouy", that did seem odd!

Review
What an opening chapter!
Usually it takes me a few chapters of reading before I become fully immersed in a story, but those first twelve pages of “Sleeping In The Ground” are absolutely riveting.
There is the shocking incident of the shootings at the wedding, which is attended by Terry Gilchrist whose military experience returns in force as he hears the first shot, Terry is there with Winsome, who gets injured by the shooter.
Moving on to Banks, who, at the time, is attending  the funeral of his first love, he is deeply immersed in thoughts of times past, but eventually news of the terrible shootings reach him and he rushes to the scene of the horrifying crime.

Then there is Ray, hippy artist father of  Banks’ sidekick, Annie Cabbot, Ray rocks up at her tiny cottage telling her he wants to move up from Cornwall, to find a place close to her.
All this, just in the first few pages, and it beautifully sets up the whole story line.

At this point I should say that I am so happy to have read most of the Inspector Banks series, as I honestly don’t think a reader could fully appreciate the storyline if not familiar with these characters who have been involved with past story lines.

Moving on again to a bit later in the story; when the investigation of the shootings is underway, Jenny Fuller, the consulting crime psychologist returns from Australia and joins the team, she is a woman who featured in Banks’ life when he was still married. They had worked together and had become close, but the relationship ended before it had barely begun.
At this point I’m thinking that Banks should wake up and smell the coffee, he is divorced now so why doesn’t he just get things moving with Jenny! I couldn’t wait to read on to see how that panned out!
That’s what I mean by being thankful for having followed the series, as new readers might well miss out through lack of back story.

Moving on again to the main story; the shooting and “who dunnit", well, as usual, there is the evidence, and then there is Banks and his gut feel for the case. He picks up on and pontificates about the smallest of details, and, of course, puts many small details together to eventually solve the case.

An excellent story which, for me, is at times a tad too long winded when it comes to describing the police procedures, but nevertheless, it is a real page turner of a mystery.

However, Banks can be a little irritating with his aspirations of becoming a little more highbrow, his music, his attempts to learn more about poetry, somehow, to me, it all seems a little forced and not entirely in keeping with his natural character.
Still, that is just personal opinion, and it didn't stop me from loving the book, it is a wonderfully entertaining and satisfying story and I am so looking forward to reading the next episode in the life of Inspector Banks. It is definitely not yet time for him to retire!

Highly recommended.

Dregs
Author: Jørn Lier Horst
Series: William Wisting Mystery
Publisher: Affirm Press
March 2017 (Australia)
Edition: Paperback
ISBN: 9781925475500
Translated by Anne Bruce

Publishers Summary
Chief Inspector William Wisting is an experienced policeman familiar with the dark side of human nature. He lives in challenging times for the Norwegian police force, meeting them with integrity and humanity, and a fragile belief that he can play a part in creating a better world. Dregs begins with a police report giving the place and time of the discovery of a training shoe washed up on the sand, containing a severed foot. Soon a second shoe is washed up, but it is another left foot. What is the explanation for this? Has there been some kind of terrible accident at sea? Does it indicate the killing and dismembering of two victims? Is there a link with the unsolved mystery of a number of disappearances in the Larvik area in recent months? In this gripping police procedural, Wisting gradually gets to the bottom of the mystery with the help of his all too human colleagues and his journalist daughter, Line.

Review
I’m always excited at the prospect of finding a new crime mystery series and was happy to come across the William Wisting books by Jørn Lier Horst.
However, it was not until I had this book in my hand that I realised that this is not, in fact, the first in the series but the sixth, it is though the first to be translated from the Norwegian.
I’m not sure of the logic behind that decision but I’m happy to say that I didn’t feel too short changed, nevertheless, a brief account of the back story would have been much appreciated.

William Wisting is middle aged Police Inspector, he has an adult daughter who works as a journalist, and he has a girlfriend. He neglects his health so is not as fit as he ought to be, he has a few quirks, but not so many as to make him one of those deeply flawed police officers that we come across in some types of crime fiction.

William Wisting and his team are investigating the mystery surrounding the discovery of a second severed foot washed up on a beach, it doesn’t match the first foot so accident is ruled out. To deepen the mystery further, more severed feet get washed up.
As four people have gone missing from the area, the team must investigate the possibility of these two incidents being related. Their investigation leads them to some very unexpected places and to some very interesting characters.

This is a police procedural at its best, it is intriguing, credible, well plotted and flows beautifully and I loved the way the author meshed the parallel stories of Wisting and his daughter Line.
There’s plenty here to keep the reader turning those pages in anticipation, and if you love a good British police procedural then I highly recommend the William Wisting series.

Author: Elly Griffiths
Series: Dr. Ruth Galloway Mystery 9
ISBN 9781784296599
Publication date: 23 Feb 2017
Imprint: Quercus

When forensic archeologist Dr. Ruth Galloway is called in to inspect some bones found in the underground tunnels of Norwich, she finds that they are not ancient as first suspected, but have been placed there quite recently. What began as an  archeological find turns in to a murder investigation for DCI Harry Nelson.

In the world above ground, Babs, a rough sleeper has been reported as missing. DS Judy Johnson takes this seriously and uncovers rumours of a community who live in the tunnels.
When two rough sleepers are found murdered the police take a closer look at the disappearance of Babs.
When a housewife goes missing, resources are stretched to the limit as the police search for any link between the murders, the two missing women and the bones found in the tunnels.

Ruth, believing her involvement ended when she had examined the bones, later finds herself deeply involved in the murder case - and also with go-getter Superintendent Jo! Things get very exciting and the pace really picks up.

Meanwhile, Harry tries very hard to tolerate his new boss, Superintendent Jo Archer, at the same time, just as he thought that his life could be getting back on an even keel, he gets a big shock. Life is not going too well for Harry.

There is enough adventure, mystery and personal goings on to keep the reader fully engaged, for me it never lagged. Good writing ensures that the characters we have come to know continue to grow and remain interesting,
and there is always some unfinished business going on to lure the reader to the next book.
Yet another excellent read from author Elly Griffiths.

Release Date:01-31-17

Publishers Summary
On a balmy afternoon in May 2002, wealthy stockbroker Peter Nicholson was turkey hunting with three friends in Prentice Cooper State Forest when he tripped, fell on his shotgun, and accidentally shot himself...dead, but did he? 15 years later, as a last resort, Nicholson's mother asks Harry Starke to find the truth. As we all know, Harry loves a cold case, but...as always, there's a twist in the tale.
Review
When Harry returned to work after his last adventure it was to discover that his staff were so efficient that they had nothing for him to do. Amanda was busy trying to get her old job back, Kate was busy, even Jaque was too busy to chat. He was a bit put out about this  ….  and Harry was bored!

That is until Helen Nicholson walked in. Helen did not believe that her son Peter shot himself, she was convinced it was murder. Having made several unsuccessful attempts to get the case reopened, she was looking for someone to dig up fresh evidence. She did not expect Harry to accept the case.

Well, of course, being Harry - a bored Harry, he surprised her by accepting.
However, when she told him who her sons shooting companions were on that day Harry could see why
1: nobody else wanted to touch it and
2: that this was going to be a very, very tough assignment.
You see, one was now a senior circuit judge, one was an Assistant U.S. Attorney and the third, a high flying lawyer.

Harry was right, it was tough going, but what an assignment it proved to be! Can Harry win this one?

In true Blair Howard style we get a fully engaging fast paced yarn, inhabited by all those wonderful, richly developed characters that Harry fans have come to know and love. Have no doubt, Without Remorse will keep you guessing.

Yes, narrator Tom Lennon lives up to our expectations again, giving us yet another outstanding performance and a high quality recording, thanks Tom.

Review
This series is fast becoming a favourite with me, each story seems to get better than the last.
Nikki Galena returns to work to face a very strange case, a woman has been found murdered in her apartment. To complicate the case, the apartment building is equipped with a top of the range security system. How did the murderer gain entry? It’s a real locked room mystery that none of the tech types can solve.

Nikki soon has to concentrate on a more urgent case, someone is out to get her and her team. Who is it? Where will they strike next?  Who is next on the list?
When her team members start to suffer Nikki goes all out to solve this case. Tired and stressed by both her work and her personal troubles, Nikki softens a little and accepts moral and practical support from D.S. Joe Easter.
In turn, Nikki acts as a buffer between Joe and his estranged daughter.

Cat develops her computer skills to help with the case, and Dave, well, you won’t believe what happens to Dave.

This is fully engaging, fast paced character driven story, there is so much going on yet author Joy Ellis keeps it all flowing smoothly.

Narrated by the fabulous Henrietta Meire who brings life and vibrancy to the characters. Not only are the characters’ voices consistent within the book, but throughout the series. Oh, and she does a very good snarky and mean teenager!
The quality of this recording is excellent.

Series: Harry Starke, Book 8
Unabridged Audiobook
Release Date:11-04-16
Publisher: Blair Howard
Publishers Summary
"There are four basic reasons why someone commits murder. The first and most powerful is love. The second - equally powerful - is hate. Almost equally compelling is revenge. The fourth is profit. Money. When one family member kills another, one or more of them is almost always the motive, and the murders on Calypso Key were no exception." - Harry Starke

Review
Every book in this series has something new and fresh to offer the fans of the Harry Starke series and this one is no exception. Harry has gathered all those close to him, family, friends and employees and swept them off to a beautiful exotic location to witness his marriage to the beautiful Amanda. Of course, where Harry is concerned, trouble is always just around the corner ….

A murder, right there on the island and he has no choice but to give in to the plea for his help from the victims father. “But” bewails Harry “I’m on my honeymoon”. August, his father, explains to Harry that they both owe this man a huge debt of gratitude, when Harry learns the reason for this debt, he has no option but to help.
Suspects soon arise, and in what is a “locked room” mystery, albeit on an island, Harry must discover which one is the murderer - all without the benefits of specifically trained investigators and on the spot forensic amenities.
Come along and enjoy the ride, another great Harry Starke investigation from author Blair Howard.
Narrator
….and another great narration from Tom Lennon who never fails to deliver the goods.  The voice, the delivery and the outstanding interpretation of the characters all combine to provide a wonderful, high quality listening experience
